Roundtable discussion
Abstract:
The phenomenon of falsity/fake is pervasive. How shall we philosophical characterize it? What meanings and values does it carry within such cultural traditions as Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism? These are the primary topics to be explored in this workshop. Further inquiry unfolds: the topic of dreams is closely connected with falsity/fake. Philosophers and schools of thought—including Zhuangzi, Buddhism, Su Shi, Descartes, and Freud—have all discussed about dream, a theme that involves profound exploration into the reality of the world and the identity of the self. Also related to falsity/fake and dreams is virtual reality (VR), which has advanced rapidly in contemporary technology. With the support of modern technology, falsity/fake and dream have undergone a certain revaluation. On this topic, traditional philosophy and contemporary life can engage in in-depth dialogue.
